Working under her own name & as former co-director of A2company, Mirto has orchestrated an army of women in impromptu marches across London; created a sound installation of whispered apologies; buried 40 people with earth; wrapped performers in tinfoil, had people jolt to the pop of bubble-wrap; crafted a wearable suit of armor in soap, & led 70 people in the community to explore the Soul.

Through experimentation, the body, participation, activism and practices of care, she devises projects that weave movement, materials, emotion and space, inviting new ways of understanding the self, each other and the world we share.

Interested in the possibility of socio-personal change, whilst involving a wide range of people, Mirto’s work has been commissioned & presented at: Royal Opera House, ICA, LIFT, The Place, Tate Modern, Yard Theatre, Lillian Bayliss & Whitechapel Gallery.

Beyond London Mirto has shown in Glasgow, Lancaster & Yorkshire. Internationally in Spain, Italy, Israel, France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia & South Africa. In Higher Education she’s been visiting lecturer at University of the Arts (Costume) Royal Central School of Speech & Drama (Performance), Coventry & Kingston University (Architecture & Landscape). Joined Mirto in 2019 as Creative Assistant facilitating workshops on the Soul, through movement expressions, materials & play. From 2020-2022 Murphy collaborated on and performed in 3 different versions of HEAL, a street performance that created a safe space for connection & healing during lockdown, involving residents of Millfields Rd, Clapton, E5 & the Council Housing Estate on which they both lived.

With an MSc in Social-ecological Resilience for Sustainable Development she has: led research & outreach projects exploring sense of place & community placemaking in New York & Bangalore, India. This work contributed to publications that explore how people collaborate to reach their goals, & what role local people play in relation to public authorities & other actors in urban contexts. Murphy has also studied contemporary dance & performed self-choreographed works in Tanzfabrik, Berlin & Ufer Studios & continues to train in choreography and different movement practises. She is interested in exploring artistic ways to nurture community spirit & provide emotional outlets for our shared lived experiences.

In 2024, Cécile was invited by Mirto to film a series of community workshop sessions. Sensing a deep alignment in their ways of seeing, visual composition, & shared search for human meaning, Anton proposed exploring a new cinematic direction outside the workshops with two participants who had caught their eye. From this encounter, a new long-term, process-led film project Audrey & Tamar, was born.

Central to this work, & Embleton's wider practice, is an exploration of the complex relationship between people & the places they inhabit. Drawn to individuals pursuing extreme ways of living or unusual paths, she focuses on capturing physical, sensual, & spiritual experiences. By always operating the camera herself, she establishes a deeply intimate connection with both her subjects & their environments.

This sensory approach to filmmaking defines Mother Vera, her debut feature documentary. Described by The Guardian as “luminous, beautiful, & riveting,” the film premiered in competition at Visions du Réel in 2024, going on to win the prestigious Grierson Award for Best Documentary at the BFI London Film Festival, as well as First Prize at Festival dei Popoli. Supported by the Sundance Institute, the celebrated project also secured First Prize at Locarno First Look 2023 & the First Look Prize at the Hot Docs Forum 2021.

In 2022, Alberto Duman, a long-standing creative mentor & advisor to Mirto, joined M2 to create the graphic design for the 40 signs in The Signs. Who better to understand Mirto’s visual language & intentions? Duman also helped place the signs across North Kensington & later worked to recover & reinstall them when they disappeared. In 2025, he led a guided tour exploring their history, meaning & place within the local community.

Born in Milan, Italy, Duman was a Senior Lecturer in Visual Culture on the BA & MA Fine Art programmes at Middlesex University from 2015 to 2024, where students awarded him ‘Best Tutor’ in 2020 in recognition of his care and support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duman is a socially engaged art practitioner, writer, independent researcher & vocational teacher with a PgCHE In Teaching & Supporting Learning, based on a  pedagogy informed by decolonial, queer & neurodivergent approaches to visual culture.

His practice spans film, sculpture, books, posters, photography, collective workshops & alternative education projects, alongside research & writing on visual culture, urban futures & the social & political conditions shaping our cities.
